WATER
In photography, as in other arts, water is often used as a rich and complex symbol.
- Naturally transparent, it is often associated with purity and clarity but it can also be experienced as dark, evoking the depths of the unknown, fear,
melancholy and mystery.
- Calm as a still lake, it can symbolise peace, serenity and tranquillity but agitated it can evoke excitement, the unknown or even danger.
- Liquid, it's changeable, elusive, unpredictable, transparent but frozen, it's cold, hard, full of inclusions that, seen up close, open up other worlds
to us, as do the crystallisations it can form as it dries.
It's up to each of us to interpret these images according to our own sensibilities... and our mood at the time.
